About
I became the doctor I could not find.
Dr. Noor Halabi, ND. Licensed naturopathic doctor, Portland, Oregon. Fourteen years in practice, most of them spent on the cases other clinics had already closed.

The long version
I spent my late twenties being an excellent patient. I went to the appointments, I took the paperwork seriously, and I accepted the answer I was given, which was that my exhaustion was stress and my cycle was simply like that. It took six years and a doctor in Seattle who ran one extra panel to find the iron deficiency that had been there the entire time.
I was not failed by bad people. I was failed by a system built to rule out disease in twelve minute appointments, which is a genuinely good thing to be built for and a terrible thing to be the only option available.
So I trained at Bastyr, I built a practice around long appointments and wide testing, and I started writing down my reasoning because the thing that changed my own life was not a supplement. It was finally understanding what was happening to me.
Fourteen years later that is still the job. Test properly, read carefully, explain completely, and say the honest thing even when it is not what the person in front of me hoped to hear.
The most useful thing I do is not a test. It is taking you seriously for ninety uninterrupted minutes.

Four things I will not budge on
You get the reasoning, not just the plan
Every workup ends with a written interpretation in plain language. If you cannot explain your own results to someone else, I have not finished my job.
I refer, often and early
Naturopathic medicine is not a replacement for a cardiologist. I keep a short list of specialists I trust and I use it without ego.
Fewer supplements, better reasons
Most people arrive on eleven things and leave on three. I would rather you spend the money on testing that changes the plan.
I will tell you when I do not know
Certainty sells better than honesty. It also gets people hurt. If your case is outside what I can help with, you will hear that in the first session, not the fifth.
If this sounds like your kind of doctor
Read something I wrote before you book anything.
The field guide is free, it is eleven pages, and it will tell you more about how I think than any about page can.
